Could you be one of our Trustees?

Craigmillar Now are looking for new Trustees to join the Board.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people living in the Greater Craigmillar area, people with HR experience and people with financial and accounting skills.

Commitment: 4 Board meetings a year, including the AGM, held at Craigmillar Now’s Arts Centre, plus ad hoc supporting work.

Remuneration: The role is unpaid, but reasonable expenses, including travel expenses, will be reimbursed if agreed in advance.

Term: Three years, with the potential to extend by a further three years.

The board works closely with, and fully supports, the executive team (the director and staff of CN) who manage the charity’s day-to-day operations.

Key Tasks

  • Prepare for board meetings by reading papers provided in advance and participate in discussions and decision making

    Provide strategic leadership to ensure charitable objectives are met, priorities are established and the staff are supported and enabled in their work for the charity.

  • Participate in the scrutiny of, and support of, the development of the annual plan and budget

  • Take responsibility as a trustee to ensure that the board complies with charity, employment, and health and safety law and is in full compliance with the charity’s constitution.

  • Ensure the financial viability of the charity, its stability, good performance and reputation.

  • Ensure the charity has robust and reliable risk management and financial control processes in operation and is able to produce reliable risk audited annual accounts in a timely manner.

  • Approve policies, strategies and priorities for the charity and be able to explain and support these decisions and policies to the public and interested parties.

  • Provide advice or support to the executive team when asked between meetings.

Full Trustee training will be provided to all new trustees - so if you haven’t served on a Board before please don’t let that put you off applying!
